What is the Sacrament of Baptism?
Baptism is the beginning of our faith journey and our gateway into the Church.
Baptism
Baptisms usually take place on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00am. Please contact the parish office to confirm available dates, and to receive an ‘Application for Baptism form’
Preparation
If this is your first child to be baptised at St Ignatius, you will be asked to attend an information session for baptism with your godparents. This takes 45 minutes, and is an opportunity for you to refresh your knowledge of the faith.
Godparents
To assist the parents in the Christian upbringing of the child they choose one or two people whom we call godparents. This role has no legal obligations, but it carries spiritual responsibilities.
Because of these spiritual responsibilities the Church requires that at least one of the two godparents be confirmed Catholics. For family or other important reasons another person may assume these responsibilities as a Christian Witness. However, one godparent must be a confirmed Catholic.
